Ingredients
  

Chocolate Donuts

  • ½ cup 100 g granulated sugar
  • cup 78.86 ml vegetable oil or neutral oil
  • 1 large egg room temperature
  • cup 78.86 ml buttermilk or plain whole milk kefir (room temperature)
  • 1 cup 125 g all-purpose flour (weighed in grams or spooned and leveled)
  • ¼ cup 21.5 g unsweetened cocoa powder
  • ½ teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • teaspoon salt
  • ¼ cup 59.15 ml hot water

Toppings

  • cup 78.86 ml heavy whipping cream
  • ½ cup 85 g chocolate chips or chopped chocolate bar (>60% cocoa, high quality)
  • ¼ cup sprinkles

Instructions
 

Chocolate Donuts

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (177°C) and grease your donut pan.
  • In a medium bowl, mix sugar and oil, then stir in the egg followed by buttermilk or kefir.
  • In a large bowl, whisk the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  • Combine the wet ingredients into the dry mixture, leaving slight streaks of flour. Gradually add hot water, creating a runny batter.
  • Fill a piping bag, snip the tip, and pipe into donut molds, filling ⅔ full. Bake for 13-17 minutes on the middle rack until the tops are puffed and spring back when pressed.

Chocolate Ganache

  • Place chocolate chips in a medium bowl.
  • Heat heavy whipping cream in the microwave or stove, stirring until it simmers. Pour the hot cream over the chocolate chips and cover with a plate for 5 minutes.
  • Stir gently with a rubber spatula in a circular motion until smooth and creamy ganache forms.

Assemble the Donuts

  • Dunk each donut into the ganache and sprinkle with your favorite toppings. Allow them to set on a wire rack.
